A Good Reason to Keep Your Fat Pants
I was a fat girl once. Not anymore, but I was. No, really, I was.

I love oatmeal in any form, and for Fitness Monday, I’m giving you a recipe for one of the ways I love it best: fresh müesli. Real müesli doesn’t come in a box, and it doesn’t involve cereal flakes, although you can find it that way in the grocery store – and even in shops…
Sometimes, the best recipes develop purely by chance. Such is the case with these cookies, which were born out of guilt and remorse and a spontaneous attempt to redeem myself. Nice motivation, huh? It started with an overzealous offer to bring goodies for my department’s weekly Treat Time last Friday. It was my new hire’s…
You might have noticed that while my overall resolution for 2014 is to lose 60 pounds, I broke that out into increments of five pounds a month. This is because that 60 pound number is a monster goal. Theoretically, it should be doable, but it’s also a long way off. When you look at it…
I first tasted huevos rancheros at Hot Spot, a breakfast eaterie in Chicago’s west side Humboldt Park neighborhood. My friend Laura was my breakfast partner that morning, and she was the one who ordered the huevos, and who ended up threatening to slap my wrist when I wanted to keep stealing bites. Hot Spot serves…
I love mashed potatoes. Who doesn’t? But I have to say, we didn’t used to eat them very often on a weeknight. I considered them high maintenance, something you saved for Sunday dinner or a holiday. But L loves them so much that I decided to try to come up with a way to make…
If this is your first time here, welcome. This is where I post my weekly dinner menu, which consists of six meals that can be ready in under 60 minutes. I’d love to be able to say that you’ll only spend 30 minutes in the kitchen, of course, but I know how real life goes….

I struggle with fat. I want to one day have a pair of fat pants in my closet to remind me of what I used to be. Instead, what I have are a bunch of old photos of how thin I used to be. I have gained well over a hundred pounds in the last 10 years. I don’t want to be fat anymore.
I admire what you have done and your drive and commitment to stay fit. You rock.
I found you! I found you!
Love this. Inspiring. Consider me a “regular”. 🙂
I came here from Ann V’s blog, and wanted to tell you I’m really enjoying your writing. This is a great post. It is so easy to have an inaccurate perception of ourselves, and you’re wise to approach it that way. As long as you don’t get self-congratulatory and realize that there is always the danger of going back, the fat pants are a great reality check. I’ve not lost so much as you, only 30 lb or so, but I, too, can say that I really never want to go back. And the way I’ve been acting this past week does NOT line up with that, so I appreciated the encouragement!
